How hot is the room for your classes?
The room temperature varies depending on the class. You can see the individual class descriptions on our schedule here.
Approximate temperatures are as follows:
- Yin class - 80 degrees
- Warm & Steady - 85 degrees
- Warm Yin & Yang - 85-90 degrees
- Hot Vinyasa - 95-97 degrees
- Hot Hatha - 100-102 degrees
Temperature listings are approximate and can vary based on outside temperature, the temperature of the preceding class, and the number of people in the room.
Why hot yoga? What are the benefits of heated classes?
Hot yoga provides many health and energetic benefits.
- The warm room helps to dilate our blood vessels and improve circulation.
- It warms our muscles, enabling us to stretch safely and more deeply.
- It stimulates sweat, which helps us to release stuck energy, and endorphins too!
- The heat feels great, especially on cold and windy Northwest days!
- It helps us to mentally focus and release stress.
- The added intensity that the heat brings naturally causes us to focus on our breathing, which brings us more into the present moment. Deeper breathing also supplies more oxygen to our organs.
- It burns more calories than a non-heated class. A 75-minute hot hatha class will burn between 250-300 calories, while a faster moving hot vinyasa class can burn even more!
- You're less likely to feel stiff or sore in your body the next day after a hot class.
Are these classes appropriate for beginners? Where should I start?
All our classes are all-levels, meaning that you're welcome to join any of them regardless of your experience or fitness level. That said, if you're new to the practice or feeling out of shape, we recommend the following journey:
- Start with the Yin or Warm & Steady classes. The Yin class is very slow-paced and relaxed. The Warm & Steady class has movement and challenge to it, but is paced slowly, and gives you the opportunity to become familiar with the poses, learn safe modifications as needed, and gauge your capacity for other classes. These classes also give you an opportunity to acclimate to the heat, since they're not as hot as our other classes.
- Next, we recommend giving the Hot Hatha class a try. The room is hotter, and the poses can be challenging, but it is paced relatively slowly, and gives you the opportunity to focus on posture alignment, and time in the poses to stretch deeply.
- If you feel good with these, the Hot Vinyasa class is faster-paced and more aerobic. Most of our clients find these classes our most challenging.
How often should I come to class to see results in my life?
We all have different reasons for coming to class, and different results we're trying to achieve. Generally, coming once a week or more will allow you to achieve noticeable benefit from the practice.
Once a week will help you to release stress, feel more centered and less overwhelmed by life, and maintain flexibility and balance in your body.
At twice a week, you should begin to find physical progress and notice changes over time: increased strength and flexibility, better balance, and capacity to go deeper into poses.
If you're practicing three times a week or more, you can start noticing other benefits, such as weight loss, a greater sense of well-being, and a "yoga glow" -- that healthy radiance that shines from you.
Everyone's journey is different, and so are the specific benefits, but the more you're able to practice, the better the results!
Is it ok to practice every day? Do I need to take days off in between classes?
Generally speaking, it's not necessary to take days off between hot yoga classes, as long as you're staying hydrated and listening to your body. It will tell you when it needs to rest!
Are there age restrictions for the classes?
The minimum age for our classes is 16. If you are under 18, we require consent of a parent or guardian to take class.
What should I bring to my first class?
- You'll want to wear clothes that are light and comfortable in the heat, and that you can stretch in. Shorts or leggings and a light top are best.
- A water bottle is recommended. It's good to come to class hydrated, and have the water available for sips if needed during class.
- Bring a yoga mat if you have one. If you don't, it's ok, we have them available to borrow! We also have high-quality Manduka mats available for sale.
- If you have yoga blocks or other props, you're welcome to bring them. We have blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets available for everyone to use.
What else do I need to know?
- We have cubbies in the lobby for you to store your belongings during class. We ask that you keep your cellphone out of the yoga room and with the ringer off during class please! Generally we don't have staff in the lobby during class, but we lock the door to keep everyone's belongings safe.
- Since we lock the door during class, please arrive on time, or you won't be able to get in! We recommend getting to class a little early so you have time to settle in before we begin. Generally a teacher should be at the studio approximately 30 minutes (-ish) before class to let people in.
- While in the yoga room, we ask that you minimize conversation. This allows everyone to drop into a space of mindfulness for the class.
- We have a changing room space in the front area, a bathroom in the back, and a shower. The shower is available for use after class. Please keep showers short to respect everyone's time!
- Please avoid wearing strong scents to class, as some clients are sensitive to them.
- During class, please try to stay in the room as much as possible. Stepping in and out makes it harder to acclimate to the heat, and can be disruptive. You are always welcome to lay down or take a child's pose as needed if you need to take a break. If you need to step out of the room for an extended time, please let the instructor know, so they know you are ok.

About the Founder
I started Mystic Monkey Yoga in October 2017 because I believe that yoga is for everyone. I had been teaching classes for a few years in the Seattle area already, but wanted to create something more: a space where everyone is welcome, regardless of age, fitness, or experience. A space where people can gather and find community with others who are looking for healthy and empowering ways to be. A space where physical fitness, emotional wellness, and personal growth can go hand-in-hand.
I get great joy and fulfillment in sharing yoga. This is a tradition that has helped people become the best versions of themselves for thousands of years. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or brand new to the practice, you can find a yoga home with us.

I love this studio! There is a very welcoming and caring atmosphere for all ages. All of the instructors are great! They provide a lot of options for different levels of intensity. Try out the warm classes if you've never experienced hot yoga before. I highly recommend!

My sister and I are so glad we found this place! What a welcoming and comfy space for your daily practice.
The instructors are all fantastic and have a nice range of teaching styles to suit everyone. They have an easy to use system to book classes through the web and a great location close to downtown, but far enough away that you can easily park in their designated lot.
Definitely check them out if you're in PT and need a little zen time - you will feel so much better after a class!
BEE R.
A bright and clean studio space with daily classes at set convenient times. It’s so nice to have a yoga studio here in Port Townsend that has classes every day!
The instructors are great and the heated room is a welcome escape from the cold and rain outside. It also feels like there is a welcoming and supportive community taking root among the folks that attend these classes, which is great. Lots of meditation events and other interesting opportunities too. Highly recommended.
